Our Syrah Dessert wine is styled after a Port. Port wine is typically richer, sweeter, heavier, and possesses a higher alcohol content than most other wines. This is caused by the addition of distilled spirits to fortify the wine and halt fermentation before all the sugar is converted to alcohol and results in a wine that is usually either 19.5% or 20% alcohol. Wines in the style of port are produced around the world in several countries—most notably Australia, South Africa, Canada, India, Argentina and the United States. But under European Union guidelines, only the product from Portugal may be labeled as Port.
Tasting Notes
Dark, ripe fruit flavors ooze from the rich, deep palate. Pie cherry, raspberry and chocolate are followed by gentle toasty oak and a velvety mouthfeel for a lush experience that is sweet but not cloying.
Serving Suggestions
As a complement to chocolate, distinctive cheeses and luscious desserts, this Syrah dessert wine elevates a simple sip into a truly extravagant experience.
