Our Merlot is grown in the majestic Horse Heaven Hills AVA at the very southern part of the Columbia Valley. It was made to showcase the terroir of McKinley Springs Vineyard and to express hints of plum, leather, dried herbs and red berries on the bouquet. Ripe fruit is very prominent in the mid-palate and softens the structure in the mouthfeel. It was matured in French oak for 20 months to provide complexity between layers of luscious fruit. Just enough acidity is present to ensure a long, lingering finish.
Lush and ripe Merlot grapes from McKinley Springs Vineyard in the Horse Heaven Hills are the basis for our 2013 Merlot—our inaugural release of this wine. This Merlot was rounded out with Petit Verdot and Malbec, and its structure bolstered by Cabernet Sauvignon. All three of these blending grapes were grown by our stellar partners at Olsen Brothers’ Vineyard in Yakima Valley.
